PISCES Avionics Engineer Amber Imai-Hong works with elementary students during Naʻalehu Elementary Science Day on Dec. 18.
We had the pleasure of participating in Naʻalehu Elementary School’s Science Day on Wednesday, Dec. 18, where we worked with about 450 K–6 students to design and launch straw rockets. The event brought together a half-dozen organizations dedicated to promoting STEM education, including the Hawaii Science and Technology Museum, Starbase Hawaiʻi, UH Hilo’s Physics & Astronomy Department and Pre-Engineering Program, Maunakea Observatories, and Chaminade University. Together, we shared education opportunities and led hands-on activities aimed at sparking curiosity and a love of learning. The students’ creativity and enthusiasm as they explored science and engineering was inspiring and rewarding. Mahalo nui to Naʻalehu Elementary School for hosting this wonderful event and to all the students for their energy and enthusiasm. It’s partnerships like these that make a lasting impact in our communities, and we’re proud to be a part of it.
