The Maunakea Observatories celebrated 25 years of astronomical discoveries at the Gemini North and Subaru telescopes during the Tanabata Block Party on Aug. 17 in Hilo. Hundreds from the community showed up for food, crafts, taiko drumming, and a variety of STEM activities for keiki. We brought our Helelani planetary rover for show, offering visitors the chance to pilot the 700-lb. machine from a mobile command trailer. It was great to see so many familiar faces and share the latest news about our work. Mahalo to everyone who supported this event!
