Leeward Community College student Austin Cataluna is making his mark in mechanical engineering through a hands-on space exploration challenge. Austin was among just 120 students across the nation selected for the NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars (NCAS) program, a six-month, multi-phase mission focused on developing teamwork and STEM career skills through NASA mission goals.

During the program, Austin had the opportunity to learn from NASA’s top professionals while managing a simulated lunar mission. He later stayed at the Armstrong Flight Research Center in Edwards, California where he shadowed an operations engineer working with the ER-2 Spy Plane. Congratulations to Austin on his inspiring journey!
