Continuing Hawaiʻi’s important role in lunar exploration, the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa will soon begin a new NASA-funded project to engage Native Hawaiian students in planetary science. In collaboration with Honua Scholars, the project will guide participating students in the study of lunar lava tube skylights and surface basalt to locate shelters for astronauts and better understand the Moon’s soil composition. Students will have a chance to make their voices heard and share their work at a major conference where they can meet new mentors and colleagues.
