January 31 marked the 55th anniversary of when Ham the Chimpanzee went to space on the Mercury Redstone-2 launch.
According to an article in Space.com, Jan. 31 also marked the 50th anniversary of the launch of the Soviet moon lander Luna 9, and the 45th anniversary of the launch of Apollo 14.
