Axiom Space, the company selected by NASA to develop modern spacesuits for the Artemis III lunar mission, has unveiled a new prototype design that moon walkers will wear during the first human expedition to the lunar surface in more than four decades. Though pictured in dark grey, the final version of the suit—called the AxEMU, or Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit—will likely be white to help astronauts stay cool in the harsh environment of space. Fun fact: science fiction informed the suit’s design. Axiom partnered with a costume designer from the Apple TV+ series “For All Mankind” to design the AxEMU’s outer layer and branding.
