The Pacific International Space Center for Exploration Systems (PISCES) is closed today due to the approaching storm.
As of 5 a.m. this morning, the National Weather Service reported that Hurricane Madeline was located about 140 miles east-south-east of Hilo moving west at 14 miles per hour with maximum sustained winds of 80 miles per hour with higher gusts, according to Hawaii County Civil Defense.
The center of Madeline is forecast to pass very close to the south of South Point on the Big Island today.
